Introduction
PKPDrugs is a model-informed precision dosing (MIPD) application. It helps clinical teams turn a patient’s measured drug concentrations into an individualized dosing recommendation, using population pharmacokinetic (PK) models.
In practice, that means: record what doses a patient received and what concentrations were measured, let PKPDrugs estimate that patient’s own PK parameters (a Bayesian fit against the drug’s population model), then use that estimate to optimize future doses, simulate a proposed regimen before it’s given, and produce a PDF report to share with the care team.
Core concepts
Section titled “Core concepts”| Concept | What it means in PKPDrugs |
|---|---|
| Center | A hospital or clinical site. Every patient and every drug belongs to a center; a drug must be assigned to a center before it can be used in that center’s episodes. |
| Patient | A person identified by a center-scoped patient ID, birthdate, and gender. |
| Drug | A named PK/PD configuration — administration route, dosing unit, and a PK model file — tied to a pharmaceutical compound. Managed by administrators. |
| Episode | One treatment course: a single patient paired with a single drug. Everything else (doses, concentrations, covariates, estimation, optimization, simulation, reports) belongs to an episode. |
| Covariates | Patient factors the drug’s model uses to individualize predictions — lab values, body measurements, or extracorporeal devices (e.g. dialysis). Which covariates apply depends on the drug’s model. |
Two audiences
Section titled “Two audiences”- Clinical users work inside episodes: creating patients, opening episodes, recording doses/concentrations/covariates, and reading estimation, optimization, simulation and report results. See the User Guide.
- Administrators additionally maintain the shared catalog everyone else depends on: centers, user accounts, the covariate catalog, and drugs with their PK model files. See the Administration Guide (requires an administrator login to view).
The workflow at a glance
Section titled “The workflow at a glance”Each step below unlocks the next — for example, you can’t add a concentration before at least one dose exists, and estimation only runs once there’s at least one dose and one concentration.

You can open this documentation from the application: the Documentation link at the foot of the sign-in page and of every page, and in the account menu. The Add dose form has a help link that opens the Doses page. An administrator also finds the Administration guide there. If your organization has not set up the documentation site, these links do not appear.
